And now for something completely different. Part Two.

So last time I decided against Ogors, so why am I still writing this?

Oh yeah, a friend requested it. Okay Oz, this is your fault. Here comes the Funbus!

Goal:

The Funbus used to be three Ogre heroes in a big unit of Bulls back in 8th edition as far as I remember, and also called the Gutstar (like a deathstar, but chubby). That was a game of rank and file, with the heroes forming the front rank of the unit and tanking hits from the enemy like they were in a raid. Still, we can take the principle – build a big, buffed unit of Ogors that can fight the world.

Research:

This list will have to go with the other faction of Ogors, the Gutbusters. First question is do we take the Ironguts or Ogor Gluttons to build this around and the answer is simple, it’s got to be the Ironguts. If we’re buffing a unit to be obscene, we want it to start strong and this is the strongest option.

Second question is who to lead, Tyrant, Butcher or Slaughtermaster? The latter two can both boff the unit, but the Tyrant (command ability aside) is more of a solo fighter. Ideally, I’ll take one of each but if one has to go, it’s the tyrant.

This leads into the third question, what Mawtribe? For me, it’s got to be Bloodgullet to get the most out of the wizards of this list.

Battalions?

Both Butcher and Slaughtermaster have a battalion and both have merits. This time, both are the same points value (140), so I’ll take my personal preference but would play games with both early on to see which I prefer with game experience.

Building the list:

The battalion requires a Slaughtermaster, 1-3 Gluttons, 1-3 Leadbelchers and 1 unit of Ironguts, so we’ll start with the minimum of each. Add in a Butcher, so we can try the other battalion easily and have more buffs/debuffs to toss around.  Then increase the Ironguts to 12 strong – we want to buff the best unit we can. Two more Leadbelchers too, that brings them up to battleline strength.

That leaves our Gluttons at 3 strong. And that’s fine. This is when I get a bit odd, in fact. You see, the Ironguts get stronger if an Ogor unit has fled the battle, so I want to set that up. Getting them up the board and giving the opponent some targets increases the chances of this occurring. For that reason, plus their speed and hitting power, I’m going to borrow 2 Mournfangs from the Beastclaws. Their quicker than the rest, so either they will get targeted early or they get to harass the rear of the enemy, either way it fits into my battle plan.

Hmm. 500 points left and I’m not sure what to do with them now. Fine, let’s add in that tyrant. If nothing else, his model is pretty cool. Mournfang come in boxes of four, lets use all those models then and save a few coins, taking us to 200 left, which we can round out with a new, small Leadbelcher unit and an Ironblaster.

The Army:

Butcher

Tyrant

Ironblaster

4x Mournfangs

Slaughtermaster

12x Ironguts

4x Leadbelchers

2x Leadbelchers

3 Ogor Gluttons

Plus a Great Mawpot. I’ve not mentioned other terrain features previously, but this time it’s really needed to augment the build.

This comes in at 29 models-and-a-terrain-piece and £325 direct from GW. This does not use a Start Collecting box set, BUT if you manage to find a Feast of Bones set (released in 2019, so still possible), then for a little bit more at the outset (£115 compared to £97.50 for the separate pieces), you can get a substantial part of the force along with 16 Ossiarch Bonereaper models you could then use/sell on. If that does interest you, check out Battlefield Hobbies. They are my local store and have 2 sets in stock as I write this.

Pros:

The list comes with a plan. Ironguts form the buffable core of the army, Leadbelchers and Ironblaster secure your objectives while peppering the enemy, the ‘Guts and Mournfang engage their weakened forces and the Gluttons charge into the way/die for a buff/generally annoy people.

Cons:

Still don’t like Ogors. And it bugs me that this army will leave the buyer with 2 unused Leadbelchers and 3 unused Gluttons. In game terms, this list puts a lot of eggs in one basket so debuffs or plain old poor luck could swing the game massively against you.
