Goatboy is hungry.

Yeah, I know that they are minotaur aelves but I like Bill Hicks and had that in my head since I first saw them.

Goal:

I know very little about the Lumineth Realm-Lords going in so I’ll keep it vague: an elite, durable force with some stomp to it.

Research:

First off, wow this army is expensive even by GW standards. The Alarith Stoneguard (who I’m definitely leaning towards as the elite in the army) are £36.50 for just five models.

Speaking of, looks like they can be a battleline choice though, and they look like a solid elite unit (both tough and potentially punchy). Excellent, means we have to use the Ymetrica subfaction (lodge, court, whatever, it’s all subfactions of armies). Narrows my research down further, and even better this is the faction focused on the big ol’ Goatboy models.

Last thing I should note here is the model range, specifically Light of Eltharion and Teclis models. Now other faction has such different models. Teclis is dire, the best I could make of that pose would be to riff on this:

Which is pretty tempting, now I think of it. Still, there’s Eltharion and on top of being one of my first models (back when he rode Stormwing) from way back, it’s just fricking awesome. A suit of animated armour, standing ready to battle without any limbs holding him together! That model alone makes me want the faction.

Battalions?

Why yes, the Alarith temple is exactly what I want here.

Building the list:

We will start with the battalion, taking Avalenor, a Stonemage and all three units of Stoneguard, completing both the battalion requirements and filling out the battleline. Three units of five seems a bit lacking though, so I’ll bump one up to 15 (their maximum size).

Next up, Light of Eltharion is our third character. No way am I missing that gorgeous model from the army, plus he looks pretty awesome in a fight too.

That’s two big fighty guys, but little magic (just one mage, the other units in the faction are casters so that is very light for the army) and shooting (weirdly, just Avalenor himself). The Alarith, Spirit of the Mountain can also pewpew like Avalenor and is a big, stomptastic goatboy so in he goes, as does a second Stonemage. I feel like it may be better to add in the other caster for the faction, but we’re sticking with the theme.

With just 200 points remaining, I’ll add in another unit of Alarith Stoneguard to the mix, leaving 100 points for endless spells.

The Army:

Avalenor The Stoneheart King

Alarith, Spirit of the Mountain

Light of Eltharion

15 Alarith Stoneguard

5 Alarith Stoneguard

5 Alarith Stoneguard

5 Alarith Stoneguard

Alarith Stonemage

Alarith Stonemage

This army may only be 35 models, but costs a staggering £434.50 to buy new

Pros:

It’s elite, it has stomp, it synergises within the faction.

Cons:

Holy cow, the price. And those helmets are just weird, I can’t look at them without thinking about how awkward they would be to wear.
